Languages

The kingdoms, and peoples that inhabit them, in the lands around Berraniel Forest are diverse and fragmented. The concept of human kingdoms covering more then a few city states is relatively knew and with this comes physical and cultural differences between the people, even within a single kingdom. Because of this there is no “common” tongue that traverses every kingdom as “national” language. Just as the elves speak elven the humans speak their own languages and whoever is the majority in the kingdom hears their native tongue spoken throughout their lands. Below are new rules on languages and literacy that apply to the world of ‘Nalmorah’ and the Amar Pass campaign as a whole.

First, not every character is literate although some classes grant literacy; Clerics and Paladins are literate in the regional language (or racial language in the case of Elves from Lor’Leian) in which they live. Bards are literate in one regional language of their choice. Monks are literate in the regional language of their choice and Myrmin. Druids and Rangers are literate in Old Dagish. All other classes are considered illiterate unless the player spends 1 Skill Proficiency to learn to read in a language they already know or to speak and read in a language they don’t already know. The Linguist Feat allows players to learn more languages beyond first level. Below is a list of languages available to players on Lor’Elvenor:

Regional Languages: Eri, Thrakan, Rojaian, Svelti, Leian, Iridalian, Varada, Grun, Rath, Kaldrian, Arisi, Dagish, Old Dagish 1, and Tuli.

1 Replaces Druidic

Racial Languages: Myrmin, Gnomish, Dwarven, Halfling, Aklo, Auran, Draconic, Giant, Goblin, Gnoll, Orcish and Sylvan.

Other Worldly Languages: Abyssal, Aquan, Celestial, Ignan, Infernal and Terran.
